Ato Forson Warns Finance Minister of Possible Jail Term for Failing to Present 2025 Mini Budget

Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has issued a strong warning to Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam for failing to present the 2025 mini budget to Parliament, cautioning that the lapse could result in legal consequences, including imprisonment.

Addressing journalists, Dr. Ato Forson emphasized that the failure to comply with Ghana’s constitutional and legal requirements, such as those outlined in the Public Financial Management (PFM) Act, is a serious offense.

“The absence of the Finance Minister is deeply troubling, especially in light of the nation’s ongoing economic challenges. His failure to present the mini budget is not just a procedural lapse; it is a violation of the principles of transparency and accountability,” he stated.

Dr. Ato Forson urged the Speaker of Parliament to intervene immediately and compel the Finance Minister to appear before the House to fulfill his constitutional obligations.

The Minority Leader’s remarks have sparked criticism of the Finance Minister and the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, with many accusing them of neglecting their responsibilities in addressing Ghana’s economic woes.
