Greed, Selfishness, and Arrogance Led to Our Defeat – Appiah-Kubi

Andy Appiah-Kubi, Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the December 7, 2024 general elections to greed, selfishness, and the arrogance of power displayed by party leaders and Ministers of State.

Speaking on The Key Points with Alfred Ocansey on Saturday, December 14, 2024, Appiah-Kubi delivered a blunt assessment of the factors that led to the party’s loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Greed, selfishness, and arrogance of power caused our defeat,” he stated, highlighting a growing disconnect between the party’s leadership and its grassroots supporters.

He argued that these negative traits alienated voters, damaged the party’s credibility, and ultimately undermined their electoral prospects.

Appiah-Kubi’s comments resonate with mounting frustrations within the NPP, where calls for accountability and internal reforms have intensified in the aftermath of the election loss. Analysts have similarly noted that perceptions of arrogance and self-interest among certain party figures eroded public trust and gave the NDC a critical advantage.

The NPP now faces significant internal scrutiny, with many members urging the leadership to address the dissatisfaction brewing within its ranks. Appiah-Kubi’s remarks are seen as part of a broader push for the party to rebuild and chart a new course ahead of future elections.

The defeat has sparked discussions about the need for unity, reform, and a stronger connection with voters, as the NPP seeks to recover from this electoral setback.
