Bawumia Joins Thousands in Kumasi for Burial Prayers of Ashanti Regional Imam
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia joined thousands of Muslims in Kumasi on Wednesday to pay his respects during the burial prayers for the late Ashanti Regional Imam, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun.
Sheikh Haroun, aged 74, passed away on Tuesday night at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital following a short illness.
Dr. Bawumia arrived in Kumasi on Wednesday morning to attend the Janazah (pre-burial prayers) and burial service. He was accompanied by his running mate for the 2024 Presidential Election, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as well as several Members of Parliament and senior government officials.
In the company of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, Dr. Bawumia visited the residence of the late Imam to offer prayers before proceeding to the Kumasi Central Mosque, where the Janazah was held.
Thousands of Muslims from all walks of life gathered at the mosque for the solemn service, which was led by the National Chief Imam.
After the prayers, Sheikh Abdul Mumin Haroun was laid to rest at the Tafo Cemetery in Kumasi. His passing marks the end of an era for the Muslim community in the Ashanti Region, as he was a respected spiritual leader and guide to many.
