John Dumelo Offers Free Transport to University of Ghana Students for Christmas Holidays
Newly elected Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has unveiled a heartwarming initiative to provide free transportation to University of Ghana students traveling home for the upcoming Christmas holidays.
This generous gesture comes shortly after Dumelo’s resounding victory in the December 7 parliamentary elections, where he emerged victorious over incumbent MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan in a hard-fought contest.
In a post shared on his official social media platforms, Mr. Dumelo announced the initiative under the tagline “Home for Christmas with John Dumelo”. The program will see buses departing on Saturday, December 21, 2024, from the University of Ghana’s Volta Hall Car Park to major destinations across the country, including Kumasi, Ho, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Winneba, Ejisu, Konongo, and Elmina.
John Dumelo, representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), claimed victory with 34,800 votes, outpacing his closest rival, Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 32,600 votes. His victory margin of 2,200 votes highlighted the strong support he enjoyed, particularly from the youth and university students in the constituency.
Throughout his campaign, the actor-turned-politician made student welfare a top priority, frequently engaging with students and implementing initiatives that addressed their key concerns. Projects such as donating laptops, tackling accommodation challenges, and prioritizing student-friendly policies were instrumental in solidifying his support within the university community.
Dumelo’s announcement of free transportation has been met with widespread praise and excitement on social media platforms, with many students commending the move as both thoughtful and timely. The initiative comes as a relief to students preparing for the festive season, underscoring Dumelo’s commitment to supporting his constituents, especially the youth.
With this latest gesture, John Dumelo continues to strengthen his bond with the University of Ghana students, a group that played a pivotal role in his electoral success. The free transportation service is a clear indication of his promise to prioritize the needs of his community as he begins his tenure as the MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon.
