Ruth Kadiri Calls Out Producers Who Demand Actors Produce 1 Million Views on YouTube
Prominent Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Ruth Kadiri, has spoken out against producers who unfairly pressure actors to generate one million views on YouTube within the first 24 hours of a movie’s upload.
Kadiri, widely recognized as the ‘Queen of YouTube Nollywood,’ has urged fellow actors to resist such unreasonable demands, emphasizing that success in filmmaking goes beyond instant view counts.
Taking to her Instagram page, Kadiri wrote, “Dear Nollywood actors, take the pressure off your shoulders! Any producer who requires one million views from you in one day has failed. A good production requires more than your face.”
She further noted that accumulating one million views on YouTube is not a definitive standard for measuring a movie’s success.
“One million views is not a standard of success. So much y’all don’t know about YouTube. Don’t let their ignorance rob you of your joy,” she added.
Kadiri’s remarks come as a response to the growing trend of producers placing undue focus on YouTube metrics, often overlooking the importance of quality storytelling, production value, and the collective effort of the filmmaking team.
Her statement has sparked conversations within the Nollywood community, with many supporting her stance on redefining success and prioritizing the artistic integrity of movie productions over arbitrary online numbers.
