GH₵5 Million Defamation: Martha Ankomah Turns Down Lil Win’s Apology
Actress Martha Ankomah has rejected Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win’s, public apology in the GH₵5 million defamation suit filed against him at the High Court in Accra. Ankomah cited the apology as inadequate, lacking a proper retraction and the essential elements of a sincere apology.
The case, filed on February 14, 2024, stems from defamatory comments allegedly made by Lil Win in a viral video. The actress claims the statements were reckless and malicious, causing substantial harm to her reputation and standing in the film industry.
According to reports by court correspondent Murtala Inusah, the matter was heard in-camera on Friday, December 13, 2024, for nearly three hours. Legal representatives of both parties engaged in discussions aimed at reaching an amicable resolution. However, Ankomah maintained that Lil Win’s public apology fell short of expectations, emphasizing that any resolution must include a formal retraction and apology delivered with the same prominence as the defamatory statements.
Background to the Case
The defamation suit centers on a viral video in which Lil Win allegedly made disparaging remarks about Martha Ankomah. In her suit, the actress is seeking:
- GH₵5 million in damages for the defamatory statements.
- Compensatory damages for the harm done to her reputation.
- Aggravated damages for the malicious nature of the comments.
- A court order compelling Lil Win to issue a formal apology and retraction with equal prominence.
Lil Win and his legal team have indicated a willingness to settle the matter outside of court. However, Ankomah’s legal team insists that any settlement must comprehensively address the damage caused to her reputation.
Court Adjournment
The High Court has adjourned proceedings to February 25, 2025, providing both parties additional time to finalize terms for a possible settlement. It is anticipated that Lil Win may issue a revised apology that meets Martha Ankomah’s demands as part of the settlement process.
Ankomah’s legal team remains firm that the outcome must include an adequate retraction and apology to restore her reputation and address the harm caused by the viral remarks.
