JUABOSO MP ACCUSES GOVERNMENT OF USING POLICE TRANSFERS TO RIG ELECTIONS
Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Member of Parliament representing the Juaboso Constituency in Ghana, has leveled serious accusations against the government, alleging the manipulation of state agencies to influence the outcome of the upcoming elections scheduled for Saturday. Central to his claims is the recent transfer of the Juaboso District Police Commander, a decision orchestrated by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. Akuffo Dampare. Akandoh contends that this transfer, implemented just eight days before the crucial election, is a deliberate tactic designed to sway the electoral results in favor of the ruling party.
The MP argues that eight days is wholly insufficient time for a new commander to become familiar with the complexities of the Juaboso District, hindering their ability to effectively manage security during the election. He voiced strong concerns at a press conference held on Monday, December 2nd, 2024, emphasizing the importance of impartial law enforcement in ensuring a fair and credible electoral process. Akandoh questioned the rationale behind such a last-minute transfer, highlighting the potential for the new commander to be ill-equipped to handle security challenges during such a critical period.
He went further, expressing deep disappointment in the IGP’s actions, suggesting that the use of state agencies for partisan political gain undermines the integrity of the electoral process. He contrasted the IGP’s carefully cultivated public image of impartiality, often projected through social media, with what he views as the reality of politically motivated actions. Akandoh challenged the credibility of the IGP, warning against placing blind faith in his pronouncements.
Akandoh underscored that his consistent adherence to responsible electoral conduct throughout his political career stands in stark contrast to the current situation, rendering the IGP’s actions even more questionable. The immediate implementation of the transfer order, taking effect the very same day it was issued, further strengthens Akandoh’s belief that this was a deliberate and calculated maneuver. While emphasizing his commitment to peace and stability in the Juaboso District, he reiterated his grave concerns about the potential for electoral irregularities fueled by this politically motivated police transfer.
